Learn about Ransomware
Ransomware is a type of malware that encrypts the files on a device and demands payment, usually in the form of cryptocurrency, in exchange for the decryption key needed to access the files. To protect yourself from ransomware, here are some tips (the RIMSD TECH Team takes care of #1, #2, and #5):
- Keep your operating system and software up-to-date with the latest security patches and updates, as these often address security vulnerabilities that could be exploited by ransomware.
- Use anti-virus and anti-malware software and keep it updated to help detect and prevent ransomware attacks.
- Be wary of suspicious emails, links, and attachments, and do not open attachments or click on links from unknown or untrusted sources.
- Back up your important files regularly to an external hard drive, cloud storage, or other secure location so that you can restore them if your device is affected by ransomware.
- Consider using a reputable anti-ransomware tool or service that can help detect, block and recover from ransomware attacks.
